Monster Pocket Pairs

Jodie Marsh, compliments of Go Fug Yourself. The British press call her the Human Viagra. Go figure.

So I did this strange experiment yesterday, where I went to a link, then went to Next Blog, then went to their link, and so on. I then left random comments based on whatever I could figure out about the site. Here's what that does (doing this fresh):
  • BadBlood
  • I Too Invisible: brand spanking new blog by a 17-year old from Mississippi. I'll have to Next Blog as he has no links.
  • Welcome To My Blog: Interesting name, some pretty funny stuff, including pictures of what friends did to guys after they passed out.
  • The Firefly Platform on Sunny Goodge Street: I went with the link of someone commenting this time. Name is love, love, love just starting the blog in April. She is a college student in Philly, and I get to be her virgin commentor, which is nice. She took some sort of Advanced Personality Quiz which seems fairly bizarre (note to self: take Advanced Personality Quiz).
  • Crossed the Tiber: A blog about converting to Catholicism. Pretty tragic post yesterday as he recounts being in medical school married three years, then finding out his wife has an inoperable lung cancer. She dies eight years later, leaving two young children. We have alot to be thankful for.
  • Technology Fellows in English at UW-Madison: had to hit a commentor again. Eight professors or grad students or something, this is like there bulletin board maybe. I played golf on their college course once, I think it was a Pete Dye course maybe. A really great course, very tough. Of course it plays a bit longer in January than in July.
Very, very weird. And to think I thought blogging was only poker blogs.

I'll keep posting a few hands occassionally, and I appreciate the input and feedback. This is from a $30/60, the eleventh hand (I've folded blinds once, picked up a pot in bb with AKs when everyone folded to me with no action). One off the button calls, I raise with KdTs, the bb calls (pot is right at $195). Flop is Jd7sTc, bb bets/fold/I raise/bb calls; Jc is the turn, bb bets (fold/call/raise). Rest of the hand on Monday as I think this is a critical type hand when you first sit down.

Only poker yesterday was a $5 SNG on Stars, taking second after the last guy sucked out three hands in a row. Not much you can do about that for sure. I'm going to try and just play SNG's with my $50 Stars bankroll, either losing it or building it up. I'll move up a buy-in if the bankroll grows to 10x the next buy-in. I'll keep you posted.

Got paid for writing my first batch of articles on PokerWorks. My plan is to use the proceeds to play in live tourneys. I'm enjoying knocking out the articles, although it isn't a good ROI probably for my time. It still is interesting to do, especially the series on folks trying to make a go of poker. Some crazy heights some folks are reaching.

Nice conversation with Sweetie last night. We have about $1,300 in a joint account that used to be our main account. I had a dream Wednesday night that I was mugged while riding a bicycle, so I've stayed away from bikes and now want to put my bankroll in an account.

cc: "Can I use the XXXXX account as my poker account? I'll deposit the money in their into our main account."
Sweetie: "If you do, I don't want to see it. Take it off Quicken, and I don't want to see the statements."

OK, so Sweetie hasn't made a significant move toward being the supportive bride when it comes to poker. Got it.

In the spirit of recipes any numbskull can make, here is Friday's Recipe: Fettucini Alfredo. You've eaten it, you love it, now you can make it.

Put a pot or sauce pan on Medium heat. Put a half stick of butter, half a pint of cream, and half a package of cream cheese. Add oregano, pepper, and garlic. Make sure the noodles are almost ready as well as the rest of the meal before you start this. Stir continuously, adding cream or cream cheese to get your desired consistency. Make sure it is bubbling just a bit then turn it down. Add some fresh parmesan cheese right at the end. After just a few minutes, pour the sauce over the fettucini, tossing several times. Serve immediately then dig in. You can add grilled chicken if you like to make more of a meal to it.

Mother's Day ideas for next week: 1-800-Flowers, Red Envelope, Tiffany's, iPod, Orchids. Have a good weekend, and thanks for stopping by.

ADDENDUM:

Rest of the hand on Monday as I think this is a critical type hand when you first sit down. Result: I folded, fraidy-scared play due to playing at stakes that are too high.

I'd guess something like Ac7c, Kc7c, or Qc7c.

He bets on flop because he got a piece. Then he bets the turn when he picks up the draw.

As a crappy $1/$2 player, I'd raise if I really feel that I'm ahead (I want to get the extra BB out of him before he folds) or just check-call to the showdown.

I think raising is most likely what I'd do here.

sorry to hear about Sweetie not going with the plan just yet, but it's understandable on her part.

I'll try your alfredo recipe - I'm a sucker for the olive garden alfredo and have never been able to replicate it...

The good thing about being on a bike is, short of an ambush, you're faster than most two-hoofed monkeys.

And you'd love the risk of flying down streets in an un-armored machine. It's better than stepping up in limits.
